Breathwork may seem like a modern wellness trend, but it’s deeply ancient — practiced in India, China, and Japan for centuries. Samurai instructors once placed feathers beneath their students' noses to train quiet, controlled breathing. Each breathwork session is varied, from extended holotropic sessions to diverse practices including breath-holds and performance breathing and elements of Qi Gong.
Since then, 3 things have changed. First, there aren’t any samurai left. Two, our understanding of the brain-body/body-brain relationship has exploded. And three, life has become fast, fast, fast.
Breathwork helps slow that pace by activating your body’s natural systems for healing, clarity, and balance. These practices have changed the way I live — and they can for you too.

Meet Mike, a decorated former paratroop commander now turned award-winning Leadership & Performance Coach. Mike helps people and teams reach their true potential by creating the conditions for them to excel. By focusing on what matters most.
What sparked his deep fascination with Breathwork? In short, an insatiable curiosity to devise simple, practical tools to help his clients (and himself) navigate life's challenges. So whether it's building better routines, puncturing the stress bubble, improving one's leadership, or clearing the mind, Mike’s approach is grounded in everyday, meaningful application. He is frequently heard saying: "I want protocols and systems while waiting for my coffee, the green traffic light or the elevator doors to open."
That search led him to the iconic Cool2BeConscious movement where, after 3 months of training and a life-changing breathwork retreat in the Hunter Valley, he became a qualified Breathwork & Meditation Practitioner.
Today, Mike’s work continues to transform lives by helping people shift focus, unlock potential, and discover true purpose.
Breathwork is a guided practice that uses intentional breathing to shift your physical, emotional, and mental state. In this session, we use Conscious Connected Breathing—a simple technique that calms the nervous system, activates the vagus nerve, and can lead to emotional release and deep clarity. It’s a powerful reset using nothing but your breath.
Yes. Breathwork can create strong physical and emotional responses. If you have cardiovascular issues, epilepsy, recent surgeries, glaucoma, mental health conditions (e.g., psychosis, bipolar), or if you’re pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, please consult your doctor before attending. If in any doubt, please email or text me, or speak to your doctor.
Please bring a yoga mat, journal and pen, light blanket (I have some if you forget), a small cushion or pillow for support, water bottle, and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Eye masks and earplugs are provided.
Breathwork is best experienced on an empty stomach. We recommend a light snack no less than an hour before the session. Avoid heavy meals to help you breathe and relax more easily.
You may feel energised, emotional, deeply relaxed, or even a bit spaced out. Drink water, move gently, and give yourself time to integrate. Most people feel clearer, lighter, and more grounded.
Absolutely. The session is guided from start to finish. You don’t need any experience—just an open mind and a willingness to breathe.
That’s okay. Breathwork often brings up stored emotions. You’ll be guided safely, and there’s no pressure to "do it right." You’re in control at all times, and support is available throughout.
The short answer? It'll improve your resilience to pressure in a controlled environment. The slightly longer one? Because we'll be putting your body (and mind) under stress where your breathing will be out-of-control, and then you'll learn how to control the breath even when it's <5°. And when you can control your breathing, you can control your mindset.
